Earth editorial note
Verra launched its new registry platform powered by S&P Global Energy, migrating 5,900+ projects, 10,500 account holders, and 1.4 billion credits in what it calls the most significant user experience upgrade in its history. The new system integrates with the Verra Project Hub, creating a single workflow from pipeline listing through credit retirement. Future phases include transaction-ready API connectivity and exchange integration.
Separately, three Indonesian forestry projects (Katingan, Sumatra Merang, and The Mayas Project) have received all regulatory approvals under Indonesia's reformed national carbon market and are set to receive at least 20 million tonnes of Verified Carbon Units. This is the first credit issuance since Indonesia operationalised its updated framework, which links the national registry to Verra's via API for real-time data sharing. The model combines independent standard-setting with national oversight and is being closely watched by other forest nations.
